Gallerí Neue, Berlín og Listasalur Mosfellsbæjar 2012

Viðfangsefni sýningarinnar er hamskipti og þörfin fyrir að brjótast úr viðjum hlutverka sem samfélagið og við sjálf setjum okkur. Táknmynd fuglsins í samruna við mannveruna hefur í listasögunni lengi verið notuð til að túlka umbreytingar lífs, dauða og endurnýjunar. Svanurinn er margslungið tákn, hann getur merkt dauða, líkt og í orðinu svanasöngur en einnig táknað upprisu.

Í sýningunni nota ég samlíkinguna við samruna og sundrung konu og svans til að tjá vonina sem felst í endurmati á ríkjandi gildum samfélagsins. Fuglinn táknar frelsi og þá tilhneigingu til að brjóta sér leið frá stöðluðum hugmyndum og myrkrarkompum eigin hugarfylgsna.

Verkin eru unnin með akrýl- og olíulitum á striga og pappír 2010-2012 á Íslandi og gestavinnustofu SÍM í Berlín.
 

The exhibition explores transformation and the need to break free from the roles imposed by society and ourselves. The motif of the bird merging with the human figure has long been used in art history to interpret life, death, and renewal. The swan is a complex symbol: it can signify death, as in the term swan song, but also resurrection.

In the exhibition, I use the metaphor of the union and separation of woman and swan to express hope and the reassessment of prevailing societal values. The bird symbolizes freedom and the drive to break away from standardized ideas and the darker corners of the mind.

The works are created with acrylic and oil paint on canvas and paper, produced both in Iceland and during a two-month residency at the SÍM guest studio in Berlin.​
